Choosing the right editing software: Adobe Premiere Pro
When beginning the post-production phase of "Where the City Hides Us," selecting an appropriate editing software was a crucial decision that would significantly impact the final quality of the trailer. After evaluating several options, I chose Adobe Premiere Pro as the editing platform.
Premiere Pro offers professional-grade features that align well with my project requirements. The editing software provides a multi-track timeline, allowing me to layer multiple video and audio tracks simultaneously. This is particularly important for constructing the trailer's atmospheric soundscape, where dialogue, ambient sound, and music need to work cohesively.
The software's Lumetri Color panel provides extensive color grading capabilities, which will be essential for achieving the moody, urban aesthetic I envision for the trailers.
My decision to use Premiere Pro was based on several factors. First of all, it is widely recognized as an industry standard tool, making the skills I develop for this project transferable to future professional contexts. Secondly, the extensive availability of tutorials and documentation makes the learning process more efficient, which is valuable when working within the time constraints of this project.
After researching the editing process for other trailers this is what I think I will have to do:
1. Import and categorize the footage into clearly labeled folders according to scene type and content
2. Create an initial rough cut to establish the trailer's narrative structure and pacing
3. Implementing transitions to ensure continuity between shots
4. Apply color treatments to establish visual consistency and enhance the intended mood
5. Mix the dialogue, music, and sound effects to create an immersive audio experience
6. Add title cards, credits, and export in the appropriate format
