Movie analysis #1 - Gossip Girl (Costume Design and Character Presentation)

The first influence is Gossip Girl, which has a very recognizable fashion style. The characters are dressed in elegant, coordinated outfits that immediately communicate their social status and personality. I used this as a reference for designing the costumes in my own project.

 

The stylish, polished look helps show the difference between the privileged characters and the outsider figure who becomes isolated throughout the story. Gossip Girl also influenced how I thought about presenting characters visually in a group versus showing someone separated from the group.
